NEET UG to Be Held Offline: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG 2025) will be administered in an OMR-based pen and paper format, taking place in a single day and a single shift. This announcement follows the recent filing of a new case by the CBI against eight individuals for suspected impersonation.

- NEET UG 2025 will conducted using the pen and paper method (OMR based).
- The examination, scheduled for a single day and will occur in one shift.
2. History of Challenges:
- Since its inception, NEET UG has encountered significant opposition.
- The previous year’s examination, marred by numerous allegations of paper leaks, impersonation, and other irregularities.
- The Supreme Court instructed the Ministry of Education to address these concerns.
3. Supreme Court Intervention:
- In light of the reported issues, the Supreme Court opted not to cancel the examination.
- It mandated the establishment of a high-level expert committee to recommend reforms for examinations conducted by the NTA.
4. Expert Committee Report:
- The seven-member committee, chaired by former ISRO head K. Radhakrishnan, submitted its findings in December.
- Recommendations included:
- Conducting NEET UG in multiple shifts and sessions.
- Implementing an age limit as well as restricting the number of attempts.
5. Shift in NTA’s Role:
- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced a notable change in the responsibilities of the NTA.
- The NTA will now concentrate exclusively on conducting college entrance examinations and will no longer oversee recruitment exams.

CBI Initiates New Investigation into NEET Irregularities
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a new inquiry into alleged impersonation involving four candidates for the NEET UG 2024 examination from Purnea, Bihar, as confirmed by officials to PTI. This investigation, handed over to the CBI at the request of the Bihar state government.
As per the First Information Report (FIR), the principal of SRDAV Public School, designated as a NEET examination center in Purnea, indicated that biometric data indicated that four impersonators sat for the exam on behalf of legitimate candidates during the test conducted on May 5, 2024.
The individuals accused of impersonation, as detailed in the FIR, are:
- Firstly, Nitish Kumar from Bhojpur, who took the exam for Ashish Kumar from Muzaffarpur.
- Secondly, Kamlesh Kumar from Jalore (Rajasthan), who represented Dheeraj Prakash from Siwan.
- Thirdly, Saurabh Kumar from Begusarai, who appeared for Tathaghat Kumar from Sitamarhi.
- At last, Mayank Chaudhary from Sitamarhi, who took the exam for Deepak Kumar Singh from Muzaffarpur.
All eight individuals involved have charged with offenses including impersonation, cheating, and forgery.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG), administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), serves as an entrance examination for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical programs at approximately 4,750 centers across 571 cities, including 14 international locations.
