NEET UG 2025 Registration Delayed Again: Over 24 Lakh Students Await Updates; MBBS Session Hit by 5 Year Setback

NEET UG Registration Delayed Again

NEET UG 2025 Registration Delayed Again: On December 30, the National Testing Agency (NTA) issued an online notice regarding the NEET-UG exam syllabus. Rather than providing a new link, the agency directed users to the previously available syllabus bulletin. This action has garnered attention due to the absence of additional updates. The NTA has indicated that the application dates for NEET UG 2025 are anticipated to be announced shortly. Candidates are encouraged to prepare their documents and verify that their details, particularly Aadhaar information, are correct and current to prevent complications during the registration process.

Concerns Regarding NEET UG Registration Delayed Again

The postponement of NEET UG registration has raised questions about the credibility of the NTA. Officials from the Education Ministry have voiced their concerns, noting that extended delays could adversely affect the agency’s transparency and efficiency. They highlighted that such delays might impede the smooth administration of exams and expose operational deficiencies.

Historical Registration and Examination Patterns

Historically, NEET UG registrations have commenced in November, with examinations typically scheduled for May. As January progresses in 2025, the registration process has yet to begin, leaving students in a state of uncertainty. The NTA published the NEET UG syllabus on December 30, 2024, and followed up with another notification on January 15, 2025, which mandated the use of Apaar IDs to improve exam transparency. Despite these announcements, the registration dates remain unconfirmed. In 2024, over 24 lakh students registered for NEET UG, comprising more than 10 lakh male and female candidates, along with 24 candidates from the third gender. For 2025, the number of registrants is projected to be between 24 to 30 lakh. Delays in the registration process could significantly disrupt students’ exam preparations.

NEET UG Registration Delayed Again: Impact on Candidatesโ€™ Exam Preparation

Students preparing for the NEET UG examination are concurrently balancing other academic responsibilities, including board examinations and the JEE. The uncertainty surrounding registration and examination dates is inducing stress and adversely affecting their performance. Experts, such as Shubham Roy, Director of NEET-IIT Academy, have emphasized that delays contribute to ongoing confusion, which detracts from candidatesโ€™ concentration.

NEET UG Registration Delayed Again: NEET UG 2025 Exam Mode and Transparency

On January 16, 2025, the NTA confirmed that the examination would administered in a pen-and-paper format. This decision comes in the wake of the 2024 paper leak incident and discussions regarding a potential shift to a computer-based format. A high-level committee, led by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan, recommended an online format to enhance transparency. Nevertheless, the NTA opted to maintain the traditional method due to logistical complexities.

Challenges of Conducting a Large-Scale Pen-and-Paper Exam

With an expected candidate pool exceeding 2.5 million, administering the examination in a pen-and-paper format presents significant logistical challenges. Experts have pointed out that managing security and efficiently allocating examination centers for such a large-scale event is particularly difficult.

Expert Opinions on Transitioning to Online Mode

While an online format could enhance transparency, experts contend that it necessitates extensive preparation. Candidates from urban areas, who are more familiar with computers, may have an advantage over their rural counterparts, underscoring the need for equitable examination strategies. The NTA has not signaled any immediate plans to transition to an online format.

Official Statement on Registration and Exam Dates

The NTA has yet to announce registration dates but anticipated to provide updates in early February. Officials have emphasized the necessity of timely registration to facilitate smooth exam preparations and maintain public trust. It is imperative for the NTA to address delays and operational issues promptly to uphold its credibility. Clear communication and timely announcements will be essential in ensuring a transparent and efficient examination process for the record number of candidates expected in 2025.
